You Are The Media Lunch Club - GDPR Special
On the 25th May 2018, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR becomes enforceable. With this date looming the press seems to be constantly full of stories that evoke panic. However, horror stories are made, for ghouls and ghosts and not GDPR, so rather than dreading the readiness process, get started! There is plenty of help on hand to aid your planning and enable you to put your systems in place.
Why Should Businesses Care About GDPR?
Although this law comes from the EU, it will have an impact globally. It will essentially affect any business holding personal data on customers, prospects or employees based within the EU, and such businesses need to be preparing for the change now. Or perhaps a bit before now really! If businesses ignore this law, they could be fined.
Giant fines aside, it’s worth remembering that data protection is more than a compliance issue. Customers care about their privacy and expect businesses to respect that. It’s good business sense to demonstrate that you understand this cultural aspect and not just the financial risks.
This leads us nicely on to this months You Are The Media Lunch Club, hosted here at Media Lounge on the 29th March. If you don’t already know about the Lunch Clubs and exactly what they entail, you can find out exactly what they are about here.
Now, back to the fun stuff.
Let’s be honest here, how many of us just switch off automatically when we hear that dreaded four-letter acronym uttered? It’s true though, GDPR is something the majority of us don’t really want to learn about or have any interest in. But we promise that this lunch club will be kept as straightforward as possible, asking simple questions, providing simple answers and in a language that everyone, even complete novices are able to understand.
This month, instead of just one speaker talking about one topic there is going to be a panel of four, all with different experience when it comes to GDPR. So, joining the energetic Mark Masters we have Matt Lawrence from Urban Guild and Justin Cohen from The Italian Villa who will be sharing what they have done to start preparing and implementing changes in their business.
The third guest is Peter Rolph from Steele Raymond Solicitors covering all the legal angles for us and finally, it wouldn’t be a GDPR event without Mark Gracey from Flavourfy on board so of course, he will be here too.
The whole idea of the panel is that it will consist of the GDPR voice which includes the more legal side of things and also proof of those who are starting to get things into place for that looming date in May of this year.
So, if you are thinking that GDPR is something you really should learn more about and what it is you can do in order to protect your business and your customer’s personal data then this is the lunch club you don’t want to miss out on this year.
